The Reed & Carolee Walker Fund of The Oregon Community Foundation
was established in 2003 by a generous bequest from Ashland residents
Reed and Carolee Walker. The fund is a permanent endowment with
earnings to be used exclusively to support programs for the needy
in Jackson County, Oregon. The fund will generate in excess of
$2 million annually.
Recognizing the extraordinary opportunity and potential impact
of this fund, OCF asked a group of respected Jackson County residents
to assess community needs and recommend strategies for use of the
fund. This group is the Walker Fund Set-Up Committee. For a copy
of the report they prepared, click here (pdf format).
In November 2003, the set-up committee’s recommendations
were approved by OCF’s board of directors, establishing a
set of guidelines for awarding grants. The fund will remain flexible
in the allocation of monies, adapting to the changing needs of Jackson
County.
